DAYTON, Ohio – The Akron Zips baseball team played away from Skeeles Field for the first time of the 2020-21 season at Dayton as the Flyers claimed an 18-7 win on Tuesday evening at Woerner Field.

Akron's offense was paced by junior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) on 3-for-5 effort, including two doubles and a single with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia) followed with a pair of singles and a run scored as three additional Zips scattered one hit apiece for the Zips (9-7, 3-5 MAC) eight hits on the day – junior Bradley Goulet (Cottage Grove, Minn.) blasted a two-run homerun to left field in the second inning. The Zips followed with three runs in the fourth inning and added one run in the fifth and seventh innings.

Dayton collected 18 runs on 16 hits as they opened the game with nine runs in the first inning. The Flyers (9-15, 0-0 A10) followed with one run in the second inning, five in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth. UD pitcher Nick Wissman earned the win with 2.2 innings of work, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four batters and walking two. Akron freshman Grayson Phillips (Glendale, Ohio) recorded the loss.

The Zips are scheduled to travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a Mid-American Conference series against the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday-Sunday, April 2-4.
