Bowling Green, Ohio – The Akron Zips forced five sets in Friday evening's match against Bowling Green, but the Falcons did not let that happen on Saturday as they defeated Akron 3-1 at the Stroh Center to remain unbeaten.

Senior LS Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio) and freshman LS/RS Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) led Akron's offensive attack with 12 kills each, while junior RS Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) floored 10 kills. Ochaya collected a team-high 13.5 points as she added a team-high six blocks, including one solo block, to her points total. Junior MB Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill.) also tallied a team-best six blocks. Adleta and Johnson followed in points with 13.0 apiece.

Senior libero Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) led the Zips in receiving with a perfect 39 receptions and added a team-best 25 digs. Senior S Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) followed in the digs category, collecting 16 while Adleta (15), Johnson (11) and senior S Taylor Kuruzovich (Port Matilda, Pa.) (10) added double-digit dig counts. Weigand tossed 35 assists and distributed two service aces.

In the first set Akron held a 15-13 advantage, thanks to an Adleta kill. The home team tied the game 15-all and proceeded to take the lead 18-16 before claiming a 25-17 first set win.

The Zips established the early lead in the second set as well, but held on for the 25-18 win. Akron outscored the Falcons 6-2 to make a 4-4 tie 10-6 in Akron's favor. The Zips increased the advantage to 18-11 on a Weigand ace. Akron ended the set with a Kuruzovich ace and back-to-back kills by Johnson and Kelly.

With the match tied 1-1, Bowling Green reversed the momentum and flew to an 11-4 lead in the third set, eventually claiming the frame 25-19. The Falcons secured the match with a 25-15 final set score.
