Women's Golf Opens 2020-21 Season with Mid-American Challenge

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team takes the course for the fist time this season on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 8-9, at the Mid-American Challenge hosted by Bowling Green at Royal Lakes Golf Course in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The 54-hole stroke play event at the 6,068-yard, Par-72 Royal Lakes course at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club features an 11-team field, including six teams from the Mid-American Conference. On Monday, the tournament is slated for 36 holes of continuous play followed by and 18-hole final round on Tuesday.
Teams competing from the MAC are host Bowling Green, Akron, Ball State, Central Michigan, Ohio and Toledo, while other non-league opponents include Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State, Morehead State, Northern Illinois and Western Illinois.
Akron's starting five consists of junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio), sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio), freshman Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio), freshman Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio), freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio). In addition, sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) will be competing as an individual.

Last season, Akron participated in four Fall events and two Spring events before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shah led the Zips scoring in 3-of-5 stroke play events while Pikunas and David rounded out the tournament leaders.
