Akron Hosts Buffalo for Regular Season Finale

AKRON, Ohio- The Akron volleyball team will play its final match of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 17 as the Zips host Buffalo. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at James A. Rhodes Arena.

COVID-19 Guidelines for James A. Rhodes Arena and the Stile Athletics Field House
• No requirement to be vaccinated to enter James A. Rhodes Arena and/or the Stile Athletics Field House.
• Regardless of vaccination status, spectators and guests must wear a mask that fully covers the nose and mouth at all indoor spaces including lobbies, elevators, restrooms, hallways, stairways and at their seats unless eating or drinking.

The University currently requires everyone to wear a mask/face covering while in indoor public areas (not private offices and residences) across all campuses.

Masks/facial coverings continue to be required outdoors for unvaccinated individuals when they cannot maintain social distancing.Â

The University will continue to monitor conditions and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the State of Ohio and Summit County Public Health and adjust masking protocols as needed. ABOUT THE ZIPS
The Akron Zips volleyball team, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Tom Hanna, stand 10-19 overall and 4-13 in conference play after dropping a series to Western Michigan with scores of 1-3 and 0-3.
Â
Offensively, the Zips are led by a pair of heavy hitters in seniors Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) and Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio) with 274 kills (2.80 per set) and 319 6kills (3.10 per set), respectively. Senior Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill.) and sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) follow with 214 and 173 total kills. Setter Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) leads the team with 1034 assists (9.32 per set). Weigand leads the squad with a team-best 30 service aces.

Defensively, the Zips have a duo of players with over 200 digs in senior Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) with 487 digs, and Weigand with 274 Above the net, freshman Karleighana Jones (White Plains, N.Y.) has a team-high 80 blocks.

SCOUTING BUFFALO
The Bulls, under 3rd-year head coach Scott Smith currently sit at 12-17 overall and 5-12 in conference play after dropping a series to Northern Illinois with scores of 2-3 and 0-3.
Â
Offensively, the Bulls are led by a trio of hitters in Milla Malik, Emma Gielas, and Courtney Okwara. Malik leads the squad with 380 kills (3.30 kills per set), while Gielas and Okwara have 267 and 265 kills, respectively. Mandy Leigh paces the team with 1,136 assists, while serving a team-high 27 aces.

Defensively, Maria Futey leads the squad with 303 digs, while Mandy Leigh has 300 digs. Above the net, Buffalo is led Okwara who has a team-high 100 blocks, while Gielas has 60.
