KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Akron volleyball team (10-18, 4-11 MAC) dropped its series opener at Western Michigan, 3-1 (27-25, 24-26, 14-25, 19-25), on Friday night at University Arena.

Akron had three players register double-figure kills with senior Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio) leading the way with a match-high 20 kills. Freshman Ellen Kinnaird (Lewis center, Ohio) added 17 kills, while sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) rounded out the double-digit kills with 11. Senior Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) dished out 49 assists, while recording a solo block.

The Zips had five players record a solo block in the match that aided in the defense above the net out blocking the Broncos, 5-4.

Senior Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) and Johnson led the Zips' defense recording 27 and 26 digs, respectively.

Akron closes out the series with Western Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m.
