Shokalook Garners Men’s Soccer National Team of the Week Accolades

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron men's soccer freshman Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) was honored by College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.Com to their Men's Soccer National Teams of the Week it was announced on Tuesday.
Additionally, Shokalook was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday, Oct. 25.
Shokalook turned in an impressive week for the Zips registering a trio of goals to propel the team to a 1-0-1 mark in a pair of matches. He posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (6) and shots on goal (3), while ranking second in shots (4).
In Akron's 5-1 victory over No. 14 Bowling Green on Oct. 22, Shokalook entered the match in the 24th minute and went on to record his first career hat trick with tallies in the 42nd (41:27), 54th (53:22) and 80th (79:38) minutes, respectively.
He became the first active Zip to register a hat trick since senior Diogo Pacheco (Lisbon, Portugal) netted three goals in a victory at VCU in 2018. His first two goals came off headers in the box before his tenacity in the box capped the hat trick.
Shokalook scored the first of his three goals on the night off an assist from freshman Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario) at the 41:27 mark to give the Zips a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Henry and sophomore Ryan Kingsford (Herne Bay, England) combined to assist on Shokalook's tally in the 54th minute (53:22) before he capped the night finding the back of the net at the 79:38 mark courtesy of an assist from freshman Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.).
Earlier in the week, he contributed 24 minutes of reserve minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Michigan.
On the season, Shokalook ranks second on the team in goals (4), third in points (10) and shots (25) and fourth in shots on goal (8).
The 19th-rated Zips close out their home campaign welcoming Cleveland State to FirstEnergy Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
