NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Akron women's cross country senior Hannah Long (Pacific, Mo.) directed the efforts of the Zips at the Joe Piane Cross Country Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 1 crossing the line in the women's 5K in a team-best time of 17:59.5.

Long placed 24th overall en route to sparking Akron to a fourth-place team finish among 24 competing teams. The Zips garnered 206 and placed behind California Baptist (44 points), Charlotte (132) and Auburn (178).

Senior Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) was next across the line for Akron in a time of 18:07.0.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring contingent was senior Alyssa Thomas (Green, Ohio), sophomore Sophia Leto (Mt. Orab, Ohio) and freshman Mya Kizer (Hammond, Wis.), as the trio posted times of 18:12.9, 18:33.8 and 18:36.2, respectively. Additionally, freshman Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio) recorded a time of 19:03.5.

In its final tune-up before the Mid-American Conference Championships on Oct. 30 Akron returns to competition at the Falcon Invitational on Oct. 16 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
