Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Akron rifle team sits in fourth place after the first day of competition at the 2020 Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Friday at the Larry O. Finch Center, hosted by Memphis.

Day 1 of the championships consisted of the smallbore portion of the competition. The Zips posted a combined score of 2315, trailing only Navy, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Leading the way for the Zips were sophomore Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.), and junior Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.), who posted scores of 583 and 582, respectively.

The 2020 GARC Championships continue on Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Larry O. Finch Center. The air rifle competition will begin at 8:15 a.m. CT (9:15 a.m. EST), with finals slated 3 p.m. CT (4 p.m. EST). An awards program will take place immediately following finals. This event is FREE to the public.
