Akron Rifle Earns Third Place Finish at GARC Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Akron rifle finished in third place at the 2020 Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Saturday at the Larry O. Finch Center in Memphis, Tenn.

After smallbore competition on Friday, the Zips sat in fourth place with a score of 2315. Akron fired a third place air rifle score of 2368, combining for a total of 4683 to move up to third place. Kentucky fired a 2385 in air rifle, taking first overall with a score, while West Virginia's score of 4693 placed them in second.Â
Â
Sophomore Jeanne Haverhill (Coopersburg, Pa.) earned a place in the finals after recording a score of 594. Haverhill shot a 118.3 in a competitive final round to finish eighth overall. Kentucky owned each of the top three places in the air rifle finals with Will Shaner earning the title.Â

Senior Kera Kaufman (Delmont, S.D.) was Akron's second highest shooter, recording a score of 592, while fellow senior Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) and sophomore Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.) tied for third with a 591 each.Â
Â
The Zips head to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the two-day NCAA Championship which begins on Friday, March 13, and concludes on Saturday, March 14.Â
