MALIBU, Calif. — The University of Akron baseball team fell at Pepperdine, 4-0, at Eddy D. Field Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The teams were scoreless through four innings. In the top of the fifth, Mother Nature interfered.
Following a 40-minute lightning delay, the game was underway once again.

The Waves (6-0 overall) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With bases loaded, sophomore SS Wyatt Young singled to right, scoring junior LF Mike Malinchak. Freshman 2B Ryan Johnson and freshman DH LeBioda scored on a fielding error.

In the bottom of the eight, Pepperdine added an insurance run.

The Zips (0-4 overall) had two hits on the day compared to Pepperdine's nine. UA also had two fielding errors.

In his first start on the mound, junior righty Quinton Kujawa (Mount Vernon, Ill.) threw 7.0 innings and took the loss (0-1) for the Zips. He struck out three and walked one.

For Pepperdine, sophomore Cooper Chandler (2-0) threw 8.0 innings. He stuck out 10 and walked one.

"Our team played better today," said first-year head coach Chris Sabo. "Quinton Kujawa was outstanding for us, keeping us in the game for seven innings. We will lace them up Sunday and attempt to get a victory versus Pepperdine."
