Akron Women’s Lacrosse to Take on Rival Kent State at US Lacrosse Stadium

AKRON, Ohio – In its inaugural season, Akron women's lacrosse is set to play rival Kent State on Wednesday, Mar. 25, at the famous William G. Tierney Field at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md., approximately 10 minutes north of Baltimore, Md.

"We are honored and grateful to get a chance to play on the USA field in March. Such a fun way to represent the growing of a sport that we all love, and the girls can't wait to give it their all against a fun rivalry that is new to the growth as well" said head coach Christy Mitchell.

William G. Tierney Field, named in honor of the Hall of Fame Team USA, Princeton and Denver coach, features a GreenFields' state-of-the-art MX Trimension woven turf and woven Sine pad along with a TPE infill. Surrounding it are stadium lights, a video scoreboard and public address system, shot clocks, and a midfield tunnel to access two team locker rooms and one officials' locker room.

The stadium plays host to the men's and women's US lacrosse teams, as well as hosting various college and high school lacrosse games.

"I'm not sure if nerves will be higher, but the excitement definitely will be. The girls know that it's an honor and can't wait to represent the University of Akron" said Mitchell.

Visitors can also take a tour of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum where you can "uncover lacrosse's rich history, explore its evolution, honor the achievements of participants past and present, and celebrate and deepen your connection to the game with a visit to The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum just inside the IWLCA Building" via the company's website.

The game is set to begin at 5 p.m., with Kent State being the home school.
