Akron Softball Splits Day Two Of Madeira Beach Tournament With 8-6 Win Over Georgia State

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla.– The Akron softball team's winning ways continued as the Zips split day two of the Madeira Beach Tournament defeating Georgia State, 8-6, but fell to Central Arkansas 7-5 in game one.Â
"We are growing every game and I couldn't be happier with the fight this team has shown. They never quit and that's what it takes," said head coach Meaggan Pettipiece.

The Zips now stand 3-6 on the season heading into the final game of the Madeira Beach Tournament against Butler. UA increased its season run total to 71 with 13 runs combined on the day.Â

Junior Kayla Wulf (Maumee, Ohio) keeps raking at the plate recording a team-high two hits and two RBI against Central Arkansas. The Zips catcher now has a team-high 16 hits. Five other Zips including freshman Tiffany Stevens (Grafton, Ohio), freshman Bailey Drapola (Brookfield, Ohio), redshirt junior Sydney Jascoe (Commerce, Mich.), freshman Hailey Eckelberry (Medina, Ohio), and senior Madison Carter (Newnan, Ga.) each tallied one hit in the ball game.Â

Inside the circle, sophomore Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) made her second start of the season. The Zips righty allowed just one run on seven hits and walked one in 5.0 innings of work. Redshirt freshman Lauren Frigyes (Paris, Ohio) tossed a scoreless 2.0 innings of relief and gave up just one hit.Â

Akron broke a scoreless ball game in the bottom of the third inning off the bat of Bryant. With runners on second and third, Bryant laced a double to left-center field that cleared the bases to hand UA a 2-0 run.Â

The Bears claimed a 7-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Akron scored three runs in the final two innings of the contest, but the Zips comeback effort would fall short, 7-5.Â

UA got back in the win column in game two defeating Georgia State, 8-6.Â
Carter turned in a career day against the Panthers going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate.Â
