AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron rifle team continues its 2020-21 campaign this Saturday, Nov. 7, with a 10 a.m. ET Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association match at No. 12 Memphis.

A week ago, the Zips added a top-10 victory to its resume registering a 4662-4641 triumph past No. 10 Navy on Oct. 31, in Annapolis, Md.

Junior Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.) won the tie breaker with Navy's Michael Zanti listing Gross as the smallbore top gun with a score of 584. Right there in the mix was senior teammate Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.) with an equally impressive 582.

Travel restrictions limited the Zips' travel squad with the non-traveling team members firing a substitute match on the Akron home range. This gave freshmen Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) the chance to prove her mettle with a 581 total.

Junior Jeanne Haverhill (Coopersburg, Pa.) knuckled down and pushed herself into a team-leading 590 in the air rifle. Giving it their best, a total of five other Zips earned scores in the 580's with Gross, freshman Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio), Openshaw, and seniors Lauren Kadooka (Kailua, Hawaii/Kailua) and Rebecca Spencer (Avella, Pa.) added scores of 586, 586, 583, 581 and 581, respectively.

Akron is rated 10th in the latest CRCA Top-20 rankings released this week.

Openshaw paces the Zips registering a team-best 1171.80 average in the combined smallbore and air rifle scores. Additionally, he leads Akron with a 584.0 average in the smallbore, while Perkowski directs the Zips in the air rifle with a team-best 590.40 average.

Headlining Akron with combined averages of 1171.80, 1168.0, 1163.0, 1162.0, and 1153.80, respectively, is Openshaw, Perkowski, Gross, Haverhill and freshman Samantha Shultz (Fort Wayne, Ind.).

Owning the top-five averages of 584.0, 578.0, 577.60, 575.20, 572.60 and 572.60, respectively, in the smallbore are Openshaw, Gross, Perkowski, Schnupp, senior Antonio Remedios (Medina, Ohio) and Haverhill.

Perkowski, Haverhill, Openshaw, Gross and Shultz lead Akron in the air rifle averaging scores of 590.40, 589.40, 587.80, 585.0 and 582.60.

Schedule to compete for the Zips against the Tigers will be Gross, Haverhill, Openshaw, Perkowski, Schnupp and Shultz.
