Women's Softball Unveils Talented Eight-Member 2021 Signing Class

AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron women's softball squad under the leadership of second-year head coach Meaggan Pettipiece, has announced a talented eight-member class for the early-signing period for the class of 2021.

Donning the Akron uniform for the 2022 campaign will be Autumn Bailey (Shiloh, Ohio/Crestview), Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind./New Palestine), Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington), McKenzie Cornwell (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele), Megan Cotton (Sammanish, Wash./Eastlake), Emily Farlin (Stanton, Calif./Method Schools), Elizabeth Frederick (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) and Leea Ibara (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay).

"The addition of this 2021 class will solidify the foundation to where we want this program to be," Pettipiece commented. "We are excited and ready for the future and everything it holds for out Zips family."

An outfielder from Shiloh, Ohio, Bailey is a two-year letterwinner from Crestview High School. She has led her squad to a pair of conference titles as the XX posted 19-3 and 21-3 records during her freshman and sophomore campaigns, respectively. Bailey owns a career .500 batting average on the strength of 45 hits, 28 RBI, 43 runs scored, 36 stolen bases with a .605 on-base percentage. Twice named an All-Conference performer, while garnering second-team DIII North West District accolades as both a freshman and sophomore. Tabbed an Academic All-Conference selection in 2018 and 2019.

An outfielder/utility player from Indianapolis, Ind., Campbell is a two-year letterwinner from New Palestine High School, where she helped direct her team to a state title as a sophomore in 2019 after playing as a freshman at Franklin Central High School. She registered a .358 batting average as a sophomore and recorded 19 hits, 10 RBI and a .368 on-base percentage. Campbell batted .289 with 22 hits, 13 RBI and a .316 on-base mark as a freshman.

An outfielder from Louisville, Ohio, Cirone is a two-year letterwinner from Marlington High School, where she is a two-time first-team All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete award winner. Posted a .676 batting average and a .802 on-base percentage as a sophomore en route to being named an honorable mention All-Northeast Ohio selection. Cirone collected first-team All-Northeast Ohio honors as a freshman before being honored as the Max Preps team Most Valuable Player and team captain as a sophomore. Selected to participate at the 2019 Stark County All-Star game.

An infielder from Amherst, Ohio, Cornwell is a two-year letterwinner from Amherst Steele High School, where she helped her team to back-to-back district runner-up finishes posting 19-7 and 22-4 overall records in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Cornwell owns a .441 batting average on the strength of hitting .357 as a sophomore and .523 as a freshman. Earned second-team All-League and All-County accolades as a sophomore, while garnering first-team All-Conference and honorable mention All-County accolades as a freshman.

A catcher/infielder from Sammanish, Wash., Cotton is a three-year letterwinner from Eastlake High School, where she led her team to district titles as a freshman and sophomore. Owns a .390 career batting average and is a two-time winner of the team Scholar-Athlete and Sportsmanship awards.

A pitcher/infielder from Stanton, Calif., Farlin is a two-year letterwinner from Marina High School. She helped guide her squad to conference titles as a prep player, while garnering a .351 batting average and a 3.28 ERA across 130 innings with her Firecrackers Huntington Beach Caswell squad.

A pitcher/infielder from Williamsburg, Pa., Frederick is a two-year letterwinner from Williamsburg High School. She owns a 1.68 ERA on the mound in 178.0 innings with 282 strikeouts, while limiting opposing batters to a .185 batting average. In the field, Frederick has posted a .439 career batting average on the strength of 43 hits, 22 RBI, 27 runs scored with a .750 slugging percentage. She was named an All-Conference All-Star as a sophomore after being tabbed an honorable mention All-League honoree as a freshman.

An infielder/utility player from Findlay, Ohio, Ibara is a two-year letterwinner from Findlay High School, where she earned second-team All-Conference and honorable mention All-District honors as a sophomore. Registered a .488 batting average as a sophomore in 2019 on the strength of 39 hits (30 singles, 7 doubles, 1 triple and 1 HR), while scoring 34 runs and posting 17 RBI, 12 stolen bases, 11 walks and a .543 on-base percentage. During her freshman campaign, Ibara collected honorable mention All-League accolades after batting .333 with 23 hits (17 singles and 6 doubles), 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, six stolen bases, three walks and an on-base percentage of .370.
