AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Army, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.

The Black Knights (1-1 overall) claimed the doubles point with win at No. 2 and 3. The Zips captured a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 spot as juniors Jemi Aguilar (Weston, Fla.) and Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) defeated Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent.

"We lost to a tough team from Army today," said interim head coach Brian Peters. "Congrats to Paul Peck and his team for playing a great match. As for us, the score line does not resemble the result. All matches were close. I am very proud of how hard our team
fought. We were too inconsistent at times in both doubles and singles which cost us, but we will fix it. After our first week back, we will build positively from here going into our match against Cincinnati tomorrow."

In singles action, UA's sole victory was at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico) defeated Paola Bou in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Action at LaTuchie continues on Sunday, Jan. 19, as UA entertains Cincinnati at Noon. The Bearcats swept Army, 7-0, in Saturday's first match.
