Akron to Host Army, Cincinnati in Home Opener

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team opens its spring schedule this weekend at home.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Zips host Army at 2 p.m.Â

Action continues on Sunday, Jan. 19, as UA entertains Cincinnati at Noon.
Â
Army faces Cincinnati on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the first match. All matches will be played at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow. Admission is free.

Under the guidance of interim head coach Brian Peters, Akron returns six letterwinners– senior Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal); juniors Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany), Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany); and sophomores Enya Forgaci (Boca Raton, Fla.), Holland Long (Rochester, N.Y.), and Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico).

UA welcome three newcomers– junior transfer Jemi Aguilar (Weston, Fla.), and freshmen Tanja Derowski (Bruckmuehl, Germany) and Aliona Kruglov (Karmiel, Israel).

The Zips' captains are Rita Pedroso and Anna Uljanov.

During fall tournament action, Rosas posted a 9-2 singles record and a 7-4 doubles record.
Uljanov and Vasilescu each went 6-4 in singles action.
