Former assistant coach Brian Peters was named the interim head coach for the 2019-20 season, UA Director of Athletics Larry Williams announced on Sept. 18, 2019.

“We are so fortunate to have Brian step into this leadership role for our tennis program,” Williams said. “I am very impressed by his energy and passion for the game of tennis and the development of our student-athletes. Moreover, Brian already has a familiarity with and the respect of each and every member of the program.”

“It is very exciting! I would like to thank Athletics Director Larry Williams and Senior Associate Athletics Director Mary Lu Gribschaw for the opportunity to lead the Akron Zips tennis program,” Peters said. “We have an excellent group of players who I am looking forward to training in an energetic, competitive, and fun environment. The University of Akron is a great place to be, and our team will represent that. Go Zips!”
Peters has been affiliated with the Akron tennis program for nine seasons. A tennis professional at the LaTuchie Tennis Center, the Zips’ home indoor facility, Peters was a volunteer assistant coach with UA the last three seasons (2017-19) after serving as a fulltime assistant coach for six seasons (2011-16).

Peters was the Northeastern Ohio Tennis Association Team Cup coach for the 14-and-Under team in 2014 and the 18-and-Under team in 2015.
Prior to arriving in Akron, Peters was the junior tennis program coordinator at Mercy Healthplex Fairfield in Cincinnati.
The Ross, Ohio, native captained the tennis team at Ross Senior High School (1994-97). Peters played two years of tennis at Wright State (1997-99).
Peters earned a bachelor’s degree from UA in sport management, graduating summa cum laude in 2013. He is experienced in 3D biomechanics tennis training.

Peters and his wife Anke reside in Cuyahoga Falls.
