AKRON, Ohio— University of Akron baseball alumnus Sean Carmichael (1986-89) passed away suddenly on Sunday evening of an apparent heart attack. He was 52.
Â
The longtime athletic director, head baseball coach, and assistant boys' basketball coach at Triway High School is survived by his wife Angela, sons Derek and Parker, and daughter Zoe.
Â
Carmichael graduated from Triway HS in 1985 where he played in football, basketball, and baseball. He continued his baseball career at the University of Akron under coach Dave Fross. A 1986 first-team All-Ohio Valley honoree, the outfielder shared the team's Most Valuable Player honor (with John Beckwith) in 1989. He was also named the team's Best Defensive Player that season. Upon his college graduation in 1990, Carmichael joined the UA baseball staff as an assistant coach for three seasons. He returned to Triway in 1992, first as an assistant basketball coach before later taking on the athletic director and baseball coaching roles.Â
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 3-8:00 p.m. at "The Pit" at Triway High School, 3205 Shreve Road, Wooster.Â
