Akron Women’s Lacrosse Adds 12 Student-Athletes to Roster

AKRON, Ohio —University of Akron first-year head coach Christy Mitchell announced an additional 12 student-athletes who will join the inaugural Zips women's lacrosse team on Tuesday.
In total, 27 student-athletes have committed to attend UA and play lacrosse to date.
"It has been amazing to see this future team come together," Mitchell said. "These recent additions will bring the level of play and enthusiasm that we are all excited to see with this inaugural year. All of these committed players are as proud as we are to be a part of the Akron Zips family."
In total, the class features homegrown talent. Twelve student-athletes list their hometowns within the state of Ohio.
Additionally, six incoming Zips hail from Pennsylvania; two from Florida, Illinois, and New York; and one each from Arizona, Indiana, and North Carolina.
Additionally, all 27 are high school seniors. Nine are listed at attack, 11 at midfield, four on defense, and three at goalkeeper.
Fifteen of the signees played at least one other sport in high school, while 20 earned academic honors for sporting a 3.5+ grade-point average.
Akron women's lacrosse begins competitive play in the spring of 2020 as a member of the ASUN Conference.
