Akron Ranks Second at 10-under Par, Three Zips in Top 5

Malvern, Pa. – The Akron Zips fired a 10-under par 274 score en route to a second place finish after the initial 18 holes of the Wildcat Spring Invitational, while three Zips rank inside the Top 5 on Monday.

Redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio), senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and sophomore Fabian Sunden (Sweden) all posted under-par scores to lead the Zips' scoring efforts. Bayerl ranks second overall and is the frontrunner for the Zips with a 5-under par 66 ledger. His performance was nearly flawless with 11 pars, six birdies and one bogey.

Sunden and Grayson are tied for fifth overall with 3-under par 68 scores. Like Bayerl, Sunden had only one blemish on his scorecard which included 13 pars, four birdies and a bogey. Meanwhile, Grayson posted 10 pars, four birdies and an eagle mixed with three bogeys for the 3-under tally.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring were freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) and junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio). Puente carded a 72 (+1) score and ranks 17^th overall while McFarland is 30^th at 2-over par.

Drexel finished the opening round with a two-stroke advantage over the Zips at 12-under par with a 727 team total. Drexel's Connor Smit recorded the low round of the day and leads the field with an 8-under 63.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for shotgun start at noon at the White Manor Country Club, a par 71 course that spans 6,733 yards. Fans can follow all the both 18-hole rounds via BirdieFire Live Scoring.
