AKRON - Iowa transfer Maishe Dailey (Beachwood, Ohio) officially committed to finish his collegiate career with the Akron Zips men's basketball program, head coach John Groce announced on Tuesday.
Dailey will have one season to play for the Blue and Gold following a sit-out year in 2019-20 per NCAA rules. He will be eligible to compete in the 2020-21 season.
"Maishe brings a wealth of experience to our program, allowing him to make an immediate impact," Groce said. "He is an extremely versatile player that strengthens our backcourt with size, strength and athleticism. Maishe is capable of playing multiple positions at an elite level on both sides of the ball."
The 6-7, 200-pound guard played in all 35 games for the Hawkeyes during the 2018-19 season, scoring 87 total points (2.5 ppg) and dishing out 30 assists for a 1.4 assist/turnover ratio. He led the team in assists and steals twice and scored a season high 11 points against UMKC.
In three years, Dailey played 80 games against Big Ten competition, averaging 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.85 assists in 12.4 minutes played per game. He scored a career-high 16 points against Colorado, pulled down a career-best seven rebounds against Delaware State and dished out a personal-best six assists at Minnesota.
Dailey graduated from Beachwood High School in Beachwood, Ohio in 2016. He helped lead Beachwood to 22 wins and a Division III district finals appearance in 2016. Dailey was a two-time conference MVP and first-team all-conference honoree, while averaging 14 points (64% FG and 41% 3-pt FG), 8.5 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks as a senior team captain. He earned Division III Second Team honors by the Associated Press.
