Six Akron Zips Earn NFF Hampshire Honor Society Honors

IRVING, Texas ā Six University of Akron football players have been named members of the 2019 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.

The honored Zips are S Jamal Baggett (Oak Park, Ill.), LB Nathan Bischof (Akron, Ohio), H/P Kyle Foster (Parkersburg, W.Va.), TE Brian Reinke (Akron, Ohio), OL Kyle Ritz (Willoughby, Ohio), and WR Mykel Traylor-Bennett (Columbus, Ohio).

An all-time high of 1,643 players from a record 424 colleges from all divisions of play were honored.Ā Each player maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade-point average (GPA) or better throughout their college careers.

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their eligibility in 2018, achieved a minimum of a 3.2 GPA, and met all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.

Baggett earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Akron in May 208. An Academic All-MAC honoree and MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, he was named to the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 team. He is pursuing a master's degree in sport science.

Bischof earned a bachelor's degree in August 2018 in sport management. A Dean's List honoree, he also was named to the Academic All-MAC team. He is pursuing an M.B.A.

Foster earned a bachelor's degree in May 2018 in sport management.Ā A two-time semifinalist for the Peter Mortell Holder of the Year Award, he was a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.Ā Foster is currently working with the Zips as the special teams assistant while pursuing a master's degree in sport administration.

Reinke earned a bachelor's degree in sport management in May 2018. A Dean's List student and Academic All-MAC selection, he is currently pursuing an M.B.A.

Ritz earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering in May 2018.Ā The team captain was the recipient of the John Heisman, Harry "Doc" Smith, and Captains' Award.

Traylor-Bennett earned a bachelor's degree in organizational supervision in Summer 2017.Ā An Academic All-MAC selection, he was invited to play in the 2019 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl.

Akron's annual Spring Showcase is slated for Saturday, April 13, at Noon at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. Akron opens the 2019 season at Illinois on August 31. The home opener is slated for Sept. 7 against UAB.
