Howey in the Hills, Fla. –  The Akron men's golf team fired a 306 (+18) final round en route to a 922 (+58) tournament total at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on Sunday.

The Zips finished 17th overall as senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) led the Akron's team scoring with a pair of 224 (+8) scores at the Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campeon course, which is a Par 72 that stretches 6,793 yards.

Grayson and McFarland tied for 37th overall with a pair of 73 (+1) rounds and two 78 (+8) final ledgers. Both players entered the final round with back-to-back 1-over par performances after rounds one and two. On the final day of competition, the duo carded 78 (+6) scores.

Freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain), redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio), Â and sophomore Kaleb Smith (Mansfield, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring with 236 (+20), 240 (+24) and 252 (+36), respectively.

Kansas State won the team title with a 16-under par 848 effort, while KSU's Jeremy Gandon held on for individual medalist honors. There was a three-way tie for runner-up as Central Florida's Bobby Bai and Kyler Tate along with KSU's Jacob Eklund tallied scores of 210 (-6).

The Akron Zips will be back in action in Greenville, S.C. at the Furman Intercollegiate on Friday through Sunday, March 22-24. The three-day event is hosted by Furman University at the Furman University Golf Club.
