AKRON – The Akron Zips men's golf team is back in action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular hosted by George Mason in Howey in the Hills, Fla.

"This is our first time playing the Mission Inn, and we look forward to a great course against great competition." Coach Trainor said. "This tournament will be a good measurement for how we matchup and prepare  as we move forward."

The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to be played at Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campeon course, which is a Par 72 that stretches 6,793 yards. The initial 36 holes will be played Saturday while the final 18-hole round is set for Sunday. Both days we'll begin at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The 16-team field includes host George Mason, Akron, Bethune-Cookman, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, Yale, Lehigh, Cincinnati, Florida A&M, Richmond, North Alabama
 Illinois State, Princeton and Wisconsin.

The Zips' starting five consists of senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.), redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio), junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio), sophomore Kaleb Smith (Mansfield, Ohio) and freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain).

This event marks the third time in the spring season that Grayson, Bayerl and McFarland have been in the lineup, while Puente makes his second appearance and Smith makes his initial spring showing. Grayson led the Zips both times out, placing 4th overall and 21st.
