Aiken, S.C. – The Akron Zips wrapped up play at the 22nd annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by South Carolina Aiken on Tuesday as Akron posted a 301 (+21) final round score en route to a 13th place finish with a 298-288-301 – 887 (+47) total at the par-70, 6,617-yard Palmetto golf course.

Senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) led the Zips' scoring efforts with a Top 25 finish, landing tied for 21st overall with a pair of 71 (+1) scores and a 74 (+4) tally. Grayson finished at 6-over par 216 tournament total. He carded 27 par scores and 11 birdies.

During the final round, freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) climbed 16 spots on the leaderboard. He posted a 2-over par 72 final round score with eight pars and four birdies. Puente completed the 54-hole event tied for 52nd place with a 78-73-72 – 223 (+13).

Junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) finished four spots behind Puente tied at 56th overall. He posted rounds of 72 (+2), 71 (+1), and 81 (+11) for a 224 (+14) total, while redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) and sophomore Fabian Sunden (Sweden) rounded out Akron's scoring efforts. Bayerl and Sunden recorded sores of 78-73-76 – 227 (+17) and 77-79-79 – 235 (+25), respectively.

No. 37 ranked South Carolina secured the team title in record-breaking fashion, setting the all-time low team score of 23-under par. The Gamecocks won the tournament by 35 strokes with a 268-269-276 - 813 (-27) tournament tally and placed four golfers in the Top 5 as Will Miles claimed individual honors, 64-65-68 – 197 (-13). Ryan Stachler and Scott Stevens tied for runner-up with 4-under scores and Caleb Proveaux tied for 5th at 3-under.

Akron will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate at Mission Inn Golf Course in Orlando, Fla.
