AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's swimming and diving team continued to shine in the pool on Saturday, as it holds a 241 point lead at the conclusion of day two of the Zippy Invitational.Â
Â
The Zips have tallied 1,485 points so far to lead the women's side of competition, while Oakland is in second with 1,244 points and Cornell is in third with 1,044.5. Cornell paces the men with 1,783 points, while Oakland has a second-place total of 1,223.5 points and Cincinnati is in third with 963.5.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomores Lauren Cooper (Dublin, Ohio), Andrea Fischer (St. Paul, Minn.), Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and senior Morgan Waggoner (Fremont, Ohio) started Saturday's finals off by placing first in a time of 1:39.50. In the 400 individual medley, senior Jackie Pash (Carmel, Ind.) finished on top with a time of 4:18.12.

Junior Paulina Nogaj (Radom, Poland) came in first in the 100 butterfly with a personal best time of 52.45, which also ranks fourth for Akron all-time. Watson touched the wall second in a time of 53.53 which ranks sixth. Both of the swimmer's times fell under the NCAA Division I B-Cut time standard.

Nogaj continued to shine, finishing first in the 200 freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:47.79, also ranking fifth for Akron all-time.Â
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Andrea Fischer came out on top swimming an impressive B cut time of 1:01.21. Rounding out the top three was junior ] (Madrid, Spain) who touched the wall at 1:01.86
In the 100 backstroke, Cooper tied for second with Oakland's Susan LaGrand with a time of 54.76.
Freshman Paige Kalik (Irwin, Penn.) had a strong day on the boards, finishing first with an NCAA B Cut score of 280.00 in the three-meter dive.

In the final event of the evening, the 800 freestyle relay, the quartet of junior Brooke Lamoureux (Victoria, Canada), Pash, senior Jessica Bonezzi (Wooster, Ohio) and freshman Weronika Gorecka (Wroclaw, Poland) took second with a time of 7:23.82.

Akron looks to capture its sixth consecutive Zippy Invitational title on Sunday, Dec. 8, in the final day of competition. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m., while finals are scheduled for 4 p.m.
Â
Tickets for each individual preliminary session can be purchased for $6, while tickets for final sessions are $8 each. Heat sheets will be for sale for $2. Spectators may also purchase a $35 pass, good for entry to all sessions throughout the weekend as well as heat sheets. Admission for Akron students will be free with a valid Zip Card.

Doors for spectators will open 90 minutes prior to the start of each session for admission.
