Zips Still in the Lead after Day 2 of Zippy Invitational

AKRON, Ohio — Akron delivered a strong second day at the Zippy Invitational on Friday, highlighted by an event win, multiple top-three finishes and depth across finals.
The Zips maintained their first-place status with 684 points after the second day. Cornell is second with 653 points and Buffalo is in third with 649 points.
Helena Lalkovic opened the night with a runner-up finish in the women's 500 freestyle, clocking 4:52.49 to lead three Zips in the A final. Elle Couture followed in third in 4:53.03, and Maggie Patterson placed sixth in 4:56.81. Ava Withey added a win in the B final with a 4:57.05, while Nina Shulik took eighth in the C final at 5:09.31.
Avery Knight earned Akron's lone individual victory of the evening, winning the 200 IM in 2:01.11. Claire Cox also scored in the B final, finishing fourth in 2:04.03. The Zips placed three in the C and D finals combined, led by Madelyn Bosler (2:04.75) and Efthymia Mazaraki (2:06.33).
Akron dominated the 50 freestyle with four of the top five spots. Callie Parkes won the event in 22.35, followed by Ada Szwabinska in second (22.45). Cora Spetz took third in 23.08, and Hannah Trainer finished fourth in 23.22. Brienne Trumpower added an eighth-place finish in 23.60. Addy Soehnlen also swam in the D final, taking sixth in 24.24.
In 3-meter diving, Elizabeth Noble placed third with 276.20 points.
Akron closed the night with a convincing win in the 400 medley relay. Abbey Cronin, Cox, Parkes and Szwabińska combined for a 3:36.20 finish, touching more than five seconds clear of the field.
