Seven Zips Earn Academic All-MAC Honors for Football

CLEVELAND– Seven University of Akron football players earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2019 season, the league office announced on Monday.
Â
In total, the MAC honored 148 football student-athletes from its 12 schools. Ball State led all programs with 20 honorees, followed by Western Michigan (17).
Â
Twelve students named as four-time selections, including Akron senior LB John Lako (Monroe, Mich.).
Â
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
