How did we do?Â
Â
"My first thought is hot and cold. We did manage to ratchet up our air rifle score from 2340 at our first match to 2347 at this match. That is a good performance and honestly saved our bacon because we stumbled a little with the smallbore rifles. Dropping from 2309 to a 2293. At the level we are playing, against some of the premier teams in the nation, there is no room for a slip, let alone a stumble. Even though we managed a win, we walked away with our eyes wide open to what we need to do when we step on the range for the next match. Navy has only fired one match this season, but they are in the 4660's. This is quite doable by this team and after a tough week of training our confidence levels will be high come Saturday morning" said head coach Newt Engle.
Â
At the conclusion of smallbore competition, juniors Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.), Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.), and sophomore Jeanne Haverhill (Coopersburg, Pa.) all placed second-fourth, with scores of 576, 575, and 572, respectively. Also placing in the top 10 was senior Anthony Jackson (Seven Valleys, Pa.), junior Rebecca Spencer (Avella, Pa.), and freshman Brendan Seitz (Milford, Ma.).
Â
Gross, Seitz, and senior Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) all placed second-fourth in air rifle, respectively. Openshaw and Jackson also placed in the top 10.
Â
Up next, rifle hosts Navy on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8:30 a.m. at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range on campus.
