DAYTON, Ohio – Senior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) and junior Fabian Sunden (Sweden) paced the Akron men's golf team at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, carding a pair of 151 (+9) scores en route to leading the squad to a 312-297 – 609 (+41) team total on Monday.

Akron finished the first round 11th overall and climbed three spots to the eighth position behind McFarland and Sunden at the Par-71, 7,048-yard NCR Country Club (South Course). The duo is tied at 25th overall. McFarland posted rounds of 79 (+8) and 72 (+1) while Sunden carded 77 (+6) and 74 (+3) scores. McFarland tallied 21 pars and three birdies and Sunded registered 26 pars and one birdie. In addition, Sunden played a bogey-free final nine holes with the birdie.

Sophomore Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) and freshman Braden Smith (Sterling, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron with a pair of 155 (+13) totals. Bayerl and Smith are tied at 47th place, while sophomore Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) rounded out the team scoring with 157 (+15) ledger. In addition, freshman Quinn Patterson (Columbus, Ohio) posted a 79-84 – 163 (+21) for 72nd place as an individual.

Wright State leads the 11-team field with 292-286 - 578 (+10) team total. The Raiders currently hold an 11-stroke lead over the field heading into the final day of competition. Oakland and Cleveland State are second 589 (+21) Â and third 590 (+22), respectively.

The final round is scheduled to begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Akron is slated to start on holes 8-10, while Patterson is scheduled to start on hole No. 16.
