Brady Leads Defense at SPIRAL Tropical Bowl

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – University of Akron senior defensive end Walter Brady (Florence, Ala.) led the National Team defense at the fourth annual SPIRAL Tropical Bowl at Daytona Stadium on Sunday as the American team defeated the National squad, 24-16. Â

Brady had a game-high seven tackles, all solo stops. Â Also playing for the National Team, under head coach Jim Collins, linebacker Brian Bell (Valdosta, Ga.) had one tackle, while wide receiver Mykel Traylor-Bennett (Columbus, Ohio) had two receptions for 12 yards, including a 10-yard catch.

Playing for the American Team, under head coach Todd Littlejohn, wide receiver/return specialist Kwadarrius Smith (Orlando, Fla.) had four receptions for 50 yards, including a 24-yard catch. He also had a 19-yard kickoff return.

The SPRIAL Tropical Bowl is an annual FBS college football All-Star game that gives NFL and CFL scouts a chance to evaluate the best college football players from the top FBS schools across the nation.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Tom Arth, Akron opens the 2019 season at Illinois on August 31. The Zips host UAB in the home opener on Sept. 7 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.

Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass—can be purchased now to lock in the 2018 pricing for the 2019 season, starting at only $60 each. Renewals (for current season ticket holders) and new seats are now available for purchase by calling or texting 888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
