AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country squads continue their fall campaigns this weekend as the Zips travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m., while the women's 5K race starts at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

The 15-team field includes: Akron (M/W), Bowling Green (W), Butler (M/W), Cincinnati (M/W), DePauw (M/W), Indianapolis (M/W), Indiana State (M/W), Marshall (M/W), Milwaukee (M/W), Northern Illinois (W), Northern Kentucky (M/W), Purdue (M/W), Rose-Hulman (M/W), Vincennes (M) and Wabash (M).

"This will be a good opportunity for our women's team," Akron head women's cross country coach Trey Brokaw commented. "Indiana State has a moderately challenging course and the competition will be solid. The team has been working very hard so far this season and it will be exciting to see how well they do against a good field that includes some MAC Conference schools."Â Â Â

A week ago, redshirt junior Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) and junior Marc Migliozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the efforts of the Zips' cross country squads at the 50th annual Tommy Evans Invitational on Sept. 8, at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio.

Andrews crossed the line second in the women's 5K race in a time of 17:35 to lead Akron to the women's title with 32 points. In a close finish in the men's race, Migliozzi covered the four-mile course in a time of 19:55.0 to place third in the men's field.

Junior Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio) was next across the line for the Zips finishing sixth in the women's race with a time of 18:31.3.

Rounding out the women's scoring field for Akron was sophomore Alyssa Thomas (Green, Ohio), senior Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio) and sophomore Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio), as the trio posted times of 18:35.9 (7), 18:36.8 (8) and 18:45.3 (13th), respectively.

Also competing for the Zips were freshmen Sydney Niekamp (Napoleon, Ohio) and Lizzy Gurko (Northfield, Ohio), senior Tarike Osuobeni (Columbus, Ohio), redshirt senior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio) (23:02.3/72nd), sophomores Whitney Wendling (Lexington, Ohio) and Leah Recker (Findlay, Ohio) and redshirt junior Cynthia Haas (Tallmadge, Ohio) crossing the line in 18:54.8 (19th), 18:58.3 (20th), 19:06.1 (29th), 19:14.8 (32nd), 19:25.7 (37th), 20:47.5 (69th) and 20:56.7 (72nd).

After capturing the title as a freshman a year ago, sophomore Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio) placed fifth in the men's race with a time of 20:02.7.

Junior Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio), freshman Jake Wickert (Medina, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Taylor Hopkins (Heath, Ohio) rounded out the scorers for the Zips' men's squad recording times of 20:16.5, 20:23.6 and 20:49.3 to finish 11th, 17th and 27th, respectively.

Akron also garnered 20:50.1 (28th) and 22:16.2 (65th) performances from redshirt sophomore Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio) and redshirt junior Nick Campbell (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio).
