2018 Season Tickets
AKRON, Ohio— The Akron Zips have elected their team captains for the 2018 season, head coach Terry Bowden announced during his first weekly media conference of the season.
The players selected seniors CB Kyron Brown (Boynton Beach, Fla.), LB Ulysees Gilbert III (Ocala, Fla.), and OL Kyle Ritz (Willoughby, Ohio) as their team leaders.
Brown, who was named the co-Defensive MVP overall and Defensive MVP in the weight room following spring drills, started all 14 games last fall at cornerback. He also saw action on the kickoff, punt, and punt return units. Brown finished with 49 tackles, 2.0 TFL, two interceptions for 108 yards, a team-best 11 break-ups, and a fumble recovery. He was named to the 2018 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Preseason Watch List and preseason second-team All-MAC by Athlon Sports.
Gilbert, who has played in every game of his collegiate career, was named the co-Defensive MVP following spring drills. The two-time first-team All-MAC selection was the Zips' defensive leader last fall with 141 tackles (58 more than the next Zip), 9.5 TFL, a team-best five sacks, five hurries, four break-ups, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery. He also scored two touchdowns for 12 points. Gilbert has been named to the 2018 Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch Lists as well as a preseason first-team All-MAC selection by Athlon Sports.
Ritz, who was named Offensive MVP in the weight room following spring drills, has played in every game of his collegiate career. The recipient of the Harry "Doc" Smith Award, he started all 14 games at right guard in 2017, one of only eight Zips to start every game. He also saw action with the kicking unit. Ritz was named a preseason third-team All-MAC selection by Athlon Sports.
Akron opens the 2018 season at Nebraska on Saturday, Sept. 1. The game will kick off on FOX at 8 p.m. ET. The Zips host Morgan State in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all home games as well as a parking pass— start at only $60 each. As a season ticket holder, fans have the ability to purchase tickets for road games at Nebraska, Northwestern, and Iowa State.
