2018 AKRON MEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULE | CAMP UPDATE
AKRON, Ohio – The fourth-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team will close out its exhibition campaign on Friday, Aug. 17, traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind., to square off against 2017 national runner-up and preseason No. 2 Indiana in a 8 p.m. tilt at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium on the University of Saint Francis campus.
No live stats or video are expected to be available for the neutral-site match.
The Hoosiers return nine starters from last year's team that finished second in the national polls with a record of 18-1-6. Indiana reached the NCAA Tournament for the 31st straight season and 42nd time overall in program history in 2017.
Leading the returners for Indiana is senior defender Andrew Gutman, who has been tabbed to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2018 after being named by United Soccer Coaches in 2017 as a second-team All-America honoree. A year ago, he helped the Hoosiers post 18 shutouts and allow seven goals all season, while collecting seven goals and adding four assists.
Sophomore Trey Muse returns in net for Indiana after starting all 25 matches in goal for the Hoosiers en route to leading the NCAA in shutouts (18), goals-against average (.260), save percentage (0.903) and goalie minutes played (2416:18).
Indiana will enter its encounter with the Zips after battling Xavier and No. 6 Louisville in exhibition play, while Akron hosted Denver and Cleveland State in exhibition action.
