FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The fourth-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team battled No. 2 Indiana to a 1-1 tie in the Zips' exhibition finale on Friday, Aug. 17 at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium on the University of Saint Francis campus.
Sophomore David Egbo (Enugu, Nigeria) accounted for Akron's tally in the contest netting a goal in the 13th minute off an assist from senior Marco Micaletto (Reading, England).
"For a young group, that was a positive result for us," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "We started the game very well, then showed we could weather a strong push from IU to have the lead at the half. Unfortunately, we were not able to get the win, but a draw is a good result. We showed some good signs of coming together as a group."
The Zips held the advantage after the opening half thanks to Egbo's tally.
The Hoosiers netted the equalizer in the 58th minute when Cory Thomas found the back of the net.
Senior Ben Lundt (Berlin, Germany) played all 90 minutes in net for the Zips and unofficially recorded four saves.
