AKRON, Ohio – The fourth-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team garnered a goal in each half to propel the Zips to a 2-0 exhibition victory past Cleveland State on Monday at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
Sophomore David Egbo (Enugu, Nigeria) connected on what proved to be the game-winning tally starting and finishing a beautiful give-and-go with freshman Colin Biros (Canton, Ohio) in the 41st minute (40:27).
Redshirt sophomore Diogo Pacheco (Lisbon, Portugal) capped the scoring for the Zips at the 55:10 mark heading home a service into the box from senior Morgan Hackworth (Bradenton, Fla.) off a corner kick from freshman Pol Hernandez (Teia, Spain).
Akron finished the affair registering a 13-3 advantage in shots, including a 5-0 margin in shots on goal. Egbo, senior Abdi Mohamed (Westerville, Ohio) and Pacheco directed the Zips with a game-high two shots apiece. Three different Vikings recorded a shot for Cleveland State.
Senior Ben Lundt (Berlin, Germany) earned the shutout in goal for Akron, while Nicklas Rulle pulled in three saves for the Vikings.
Twenty-two Zips garnered playing time in the match for the Zips, while 21 Vikings earned playing time.
The start of the match was delayed nearly 90 minutes due to torrential rain and lightning.
