Akron, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team will return to action on Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6, for the 21st annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by South Carolina Aiken in Aiken, S.C.

The 54-hole event will be played at the Palmetto golf course, a par-70 course that spans 6,617 yards. The 18-team field includes host USC Aiken, Akron, Army West Point, Augusta, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, Manhattan, Memphis, Presbyterian College, Temple, UAB, VCU, Virginia, William & Mary and Wofford.

The tournament will format will be a shotgun start for both days beginning at 8:30 a.m. with continuous play through 36 holes on Monday. Fans can follow the action with GolfStat Live Scoring.

The Zips' starting five includes, junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.), senior George Baylis (Ascot, England), junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio), sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio), and freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden).

Last season, Clemson overcame a three-stroke deficit to claim the team championship, while second place Virginia's Derek Bard and Danny Walker earned top honors. Bard finished the 54-hole event at 6-under par with a 204 total, claiming medalist honors, and Walker finished runner-up at 207 (-3). It was Clemson's third title in five years.

Akron finished tied for 11th overall. The Zips fired a final round 293 (+13) for an 878 (+38) 54-hole total. Grayson led the Zips with three consecutive rounds of  72 (+2) to finish tied for the 23rd spot with 216 (+6) strokes. Baylis was tied for 36th place, finishing with a 220 (+10) stroke total and rounds of 76 (+6), 70 (E), and 74 (+4), while Appleby's 77 (+7), 76 (+6), and 73 (+3) scores were good for a 61st place tie, 226 (+16).

The Zips are coming off an 11th place finish at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The Zips finished the 54-hole tournament with a 905 (+41) on rounds of 304 (+16), 294 (+6), and 307(+19) at the Wexford Plantation Course, a par 72 Arnold Palmer signature course that measures 6,913 yards in length.

Grayson led Akron's scoring, finishing in the fourth overall with a 5-under par 211 three-round total, 70 (-2), 66 (-6), and 75 (+3). Baylis carded 78 (+6), 78 (+6), 75 (+3) - 231 (+15). Sunden and Appleby closed out the scoring with 239 (+23) and 240 (+24) tournament totals.
