Ten Zips Earn Academic All-MAC Honors for Football

CLEVELAND– Ten University of Akron football players earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2018 season, the league office announced on Monday.
Â
In total, the MAC honored 154 football student-athletes from its 12 schools. Western Michigan led all programs with 20 honorees, followed by Ball State (19) and Toledo (19).
Â
There were 29 students named as three-time selections, including Akron's Nathan Bischof (Akron, Ohio) and John Lako (Monroe, Mich.).

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The Academic All-MAC honorees are now under consideration for Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors.
