Kolano Claims Final MAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio– For the first time in her Akron career and for the last time of the 2018 women's soccer season, sophomore forward Lexie Kolano (Trafford, Pa.) was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Sunday.

Kolano played her finest game in an Akron uniform against Buffalo and helped lead Akron to its first Mid-American Conference Tournament since 2015.

On a season- and career-high six shots against the Bulls defense, along with a season- and career-high five shots on goal, Kolano found the back of the net twice including the game-winning goal in the 75'. It was the first multi-goal performance for the sophomore forward.

Kolano broke a 1-1 tie just five minutes into the second half of play with her first goal of the match. The Zips forward lifted a high floating kick that was bouncing around the box into the upper left corner of the goal over a defender the Bulls keeper.

Again, with the score tied, now at 2-2, Kolano struck gold once more in the 75'. A balled curled into the box by her teammate was sent into the back of the net after a battle against a Buffalo defender to give Akron the go-ahead goal, 3-2.

No. 6 Akron takes on No. 3 Western Michigan in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament this afternoon at 1 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
