Akron Women's Soccer Picked Fifth in MAC Pre-Season Poll

AKRON, Ohio – The 2017 Mid-American Conference women's soccer pre-season poll was announced by the league on Monday and the Akron Zips have been predicted to finish fifth overall in the Eastern Division, by a vote of the leagues head coaches.

Under the guidance of third-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, the Zips ended the 2016 regular season with a 4-11-4 mark and look to take the next step in the conference in 2017.

Out of the East, Kent State was chosen to come out atop the standings and received 10 first-place votes, followed by Buffalo with two first place votes, and Miami (Ohio).

In the West, Ball State was selected to take the division title for the second straight year. Central Michigan and Western Michigan round out the top three spots in the West.

The 2016 MAC regular season champions, Ball State, are predicted to win the 2017 MAC Tournament receiving four votes, while Central Michigan garnered three votes, and Kent State earned two.

Akron returns 11 players from the 2016 squad and welcomed in 13 freshmen to the roster this season.

The Zips recently defeated Robert Morris in their pre-season exhibition contest, 2-0, on Aug. 13.

Akron opens the 2017 regular season with a pair of contests on its home field of FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field against Milwaukee on Friday, Aug. 18, and then a matchup with Green Bay on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Women's soccer season tickets are just $40 for general admission. Fans who have 2017 men's soccer season tickets can add a women's Family Plan for just $40 total. Discounted season tickets are available for current UA Faculty and Staff at $32. Single-game and group tickets will be available beginning in early August.

Season tickets can be purchased online at GoZips.com/tickets, by calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766), or at the C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
