Kannapolis, N.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team finished The Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate in 13th place after posting a 303 (+19) en route to an 886 (+34) team total on Sunday.
The Zips recorded rounds of 291 (+7), 292 (+8), and 303 (+19) at The Club at Irish Creek, a par 71 course that spans 7,099 yards, while North Florida claimed team honors with a 14-under par 838 tournament total. Florida State's Cristobal Del Solar earned medalist honors with an 8-under 205 total, while teammate Josh Lee earned runner-up with a 7-under 206 54-hole performance.
Sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) led Akron's scoring efforts with 218 (+5) tournament total. Appleby finished 42nd overall with rounds of 71 (E), 74 (+3), and 73 (+2). He finished the 54-hole event with 26 pars, 17 bogeys, 10 birdies, and a double bogey.
Senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.) was second in scoring and 47th overall, finishing the 54-hole event with a 219 (+6) tally. Gollwitzer carded rounds of 73 (+2), 70 (-1), and 76 (+5). He totaled 40 pars, seven bogeys, five birdies, and two double bogeys.
Sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) posted a third-best 223 (+10) with a pair of 74 (+3) rounds and a 75 (+4), while senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France) and junior George Baylis (Ascot, England), both, finished with 229 (+16) totals.
Akron will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23 at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State at the OSU Scarlet Course.Â
