Zips Arrive in Florida for Boca Raton Bowl

BOCA RATON, Fla.– The Akron Zips have landed!

The University of Akron football team, under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Terry Bowden, flew to Florida on Friday afternoon following the completion of final exams and a morning practice at Stile Athletics Field House.

The Zips were greeted at West Palm Beach airport by Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie, Bowl Executive Director Doug Mosley, and members of the community.

Akron's roster sports 29 players from the state of Florida, including 12 players from the greater South Florida area.

"Life is amazing," said senior captain A.J. Coney (Orlando, Fla.). "Great things happen when you put in hard work. This is our reward. Everyone's ecstatic, and we're just going to enjoy it one day at a time."

Upon arrival at the team hotel, the bowl hosted a Welcome Party for the team poolside.

Tickets for the 2017 Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl are on sale now for $57 each online only. Akron (7-6 overall) faces Florida Atlantic (10-3 overall) on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla. ESPN will televise the game.
