2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
Â
AKRON, Ohio- Akron junior left side hitter Kayla Gwozdz (Temperance, Mich.) has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 5 Second Team.
Â
"We're extremely proud of Kayla being recognized for her performance in the classroom," said head coach Tom Hanna. "It's exciting to have some individual honors for academic success. Our incredible performance as a team in the classroom has been recognized previously in a number of ways, including the team's GPA of 3.73 last academic year that was honored by the AVCA as being in the Top 25 of Division I GPA's."
Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches. District winners now move onto the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-America honors.
Â
Gwozdz, who maintains a 3.99 grade-point average pursuing a bachelor's degree in social work, was one of eight student-athletes nationally honored as second-team Academic All-Americans for Division 1. Gwozdz ended the 2017 season leading the Zips squad with 290 kills, averaging 3.37 kills per set. The junior also tallied 146 digs and 11 total blocks.
