Bridgeport, W.Va. – Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) leads the 84-player field at The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational, as play was called due to darkness in the second round on Monday.

Baylis finished the opening round tied for third overall with a 2-under 70 performance, which included 13 pars, four birdies, and a double bogey. He continued to play under-par golf during the second round, collecting four birdies with a bogey and 11 pars before play was ended because of darkness. Baylis climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a 3-under par second-round ledger with two holes remaining to be played. Baylis is currently 5-under par for the tournament.

The Akron Zips men's golf team ended the first round ranked fourth overall in the 16-team field with a 292 (+4) team total. Akron fell one spot during the second round, ranking fifth with most players needing two holes to finish the second round of play. The Zips are currently 4-over in the second round.

Junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) bounced back from an opening round 76 (+4) effort with a 1-under par score through 16 holes of play. During round two, Grayson has nine pars, four birdies and three bogeys.

Freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) followed with an even-par opening round scorecard, and is currently (+4) with two holes left, while junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) ended the first round with a 74 (+2) score and is (+5) in the second round with one hole remaining.

Rounding out the Zips scoring is sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio). McFarland posted a 77 (+5) first round, and is currently (+4) over with one hole left to play.

Play is scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m. to finish round two. The players will proceed to round three immediately following the completion of the previous round.
