No. 16 Akron Rifle Prepared for Season Opener at Tiger Open

AKRON, Ohio - The No. 16 University of Akron Rifle squad is set to open its 2016-17 season Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Tiger Open in Memphis, Tenn.
Competing in the opening-weekend match along with the Zips is No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 19 UT Martin, No. 10 Memphis, No. 12 Jacksonville State, and Alabama Birmingham. Akron is ranked #16 in the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll to begin the year.
Making the trip to Memphis are seniors Zachary Strohl (Barto, Pa.) and Connor O'Mara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), along with junior Julia Hatch (Northfield, Vt.), sophomore Caleb Lloyd (Seven Valleys, Pa.) and a pair of freshmen including Anthony Jackson (Seven Valleys, Pa.) and Cierra Terrizzi (Dallastown, Pa.).
The Zips are led by head coach Newt Engle who enters his 39th season at the helm of the Akron program. The Zips return 12 members from last year's squad with five new members made up of five incoming freshmen Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio), Jackson, Kera Kaufman (Delmont S.D.), Sean Roehrs (Sylvania, Ohio), and Terrizzi.
Last season at the Tiger Open, Akron finished with shooting a combined score of 4,600 out of a possible 4,800.
