Zips Finish Seventh Overall at the Murray State Jan Weaver Intercollegiate

Murray, Ky. – The Akron Zips women's golf team finished the Murray State Jan Weaver Intercollegiate seventh overall after firing a final round 324 (+36) on Saturday. Akron completed the 54-hole event at the 6,017-yard par 72 Miller Memorial Golf Club with a 964 (+100) team total.
Morehead State overcame a five-stroke deficit to win the tournament by three strokes after firing a 311 (+23) final round for a 935 (+71) tournament total. The hosts, Murray State, secured second with a 938 (+74) score. Murray State's Moa Folke held on to claim medalist honors with a 223 (+7) three-round score.
Four Zips tallied 81 (+9) final round scores as senior Frida Fougberg (Partille, Sweden) and freshman Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the Zips' tournament scoring.
Both, Fougberg and Nicholson, finished eighth overall, carding 236 (+20) 54-hole scores. Fougberg recorded rounds of 81 (+9), 74 (+2), and 81 (+9) while Nicholson registered rounds of 80 (+8), 75 (+3), and 81 (+9).
Sophomore Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) and freshman Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) completed the event tied for 32nd overall with 246 (+30) scores. Her fired 87 (+15), 78 (+6), and 81 (+9) while Dull notched 80 (+8), 85 (+13), and 81 (+9) rounds.
Junior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) rounded out the team scoring with a 56th place 256 (+40) while senior Lesli Stolly (Lima, Ohio), playing as an individual, finished 43rd overall with a 250 (+34).
The Zips will now prepare for the three-day Mid-American Conference Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 22-24 at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.
