Nicholson Remains in First Place, Zips Trail by Three Strokes for Lead at UC Bearcat Spring Classic

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. – After the second round of the UC Bearcat Spring Classic, freshman Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) maintained the share of a one-stroke lead with Seminole State's Cynthia Bounleutay, 149 (+5), while the Akron Zips women's golf team slipped to second with a 629 (+53) 36-hole total.
Nicholson carded a 76 (+4) to remain at the top of the leaderboard while the Zips followed the first round 313 (+25) with a 316 (+28) to trail Cincinnati (hosts) by three strokes heading into Sunday's final round at Mission Inn Resort and Country Club's El Campeon Golf Course.
Nicholson opened the day with a birdie on hole No. 1, but fell behind with a double bogey on the second hole. Nicholson followed with three more bogies before finishing the round with 13-straight pars.
Senior Frida Fougberg (Partille, Sweden) and sophomore Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) are tied for 13th overall with a pair of 156 (+12) scores. Fougberg recorded a second 78 (+6) round with 11 pars, five bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie. Her added a 79 (+7) second round score to the previous 77 (+5) total with nine pars, eight bogeys, and a birdie.
Rounding out the Zips' scoring were freshman Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) and junior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico). Dull improved by two strokes, finishing with an 83 (+11) for a 168 (+24) while Velasco-Villanueva added four strokes for a 90 (+18) and 176 (+32) total
