Cross Country Celebrates 2016 Campaign at Awards Dinner

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country teams celebrated its 2016 campaigns at the squad's annual award dinner on Dec. 2, as head coaches David Gramlich and Lee LaBadie handed out awards to seven student-athletes.
Redshirt sophomore Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio) was honored with both the Most Valuable Performer and Most Improved awards for the women, while junior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) was recognized with the Most Valuable Performer for the men's squad.
Mosier competed in all six races for the Zips and was Akron's top finisher four times. Her best finish was 28th at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational crossing the line in 22:57.40, before posting a team-best finish (44th) at the Mid-American Conference Championships in 22:58.8. Additionally, she placed a team-high 112th at NCAA Great Lakes Regional in 22:29.8.
Crichlow ran in five of the Zips' six races on the campaign and garnered First-Team All-MAC accolades placing sixth at the MAC Championships in 25:30.0. He also registered Akron's second-best finish (84th) at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional crossing the line in 32:21.6.
Honored as the men's Most Improved recipient was redshirt freshman Tevin Brown (Toledo, Ohio). Brown ran in five of six races for the Zips and turned in a team-best finish (80th) at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional crossing the line in 32:17.7. He also placed 31st at the MAC Championships (26:21.6).
The Newcomer Awards were presented to redshirt freshmen Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) and Nick Campbell (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio).
Andrews ran on four of six races for the Zips and garnered her best finish (34th) at the All-Ohio Championships crossing the line in 22:54.7. She also placed 50th at the MAC Championships with a time of 22:57.6
Campbell ran in five of six races for the Zips and registered his best finish (14th) at the Tommy Evans Invitational in 20:55.22. He also placed 49th at the MAC Championships crossing the line in 27:10.0.
The final awards honored a pair of senior for their contribution to the Zips' success over their respective careers competing for Akron. The Senior Award accolades were bestowed upon Natalie Zidd (Hinckley, Ohio) and Martin Zegarelli (Erie, Pa.). The duo also received their four-year letterwinner awards.
Zidd ran in four of six races for the Zips and crossed the line in 23:27.6 at the MAC Championships. She also posted season-best time of 22:42.3 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
Zegarelli ran in four of six races for the Zips recording his best finish (38th) at the Tommy Evans Invitational crossing the line in 22:18.41. He also placed 75th at the MAC Championships in 28:50.6 and 168th at the Great Lakes Regional in a time of 34:03.6.
