Cleveland, Ohio – Sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) was selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week , the league office announced on Thursday.
"We are very happy that Danielle was voted MAC Golfer of the Week," Zips' head coach Jenny King said. "Her performance at Missouri's tournament was solid, and she accomplished that feat against some of top ranked individuals in the country."
The defending MAC champion finished runner-up at the 9th annual Johnie Imes Invitational while tying the Zips' all-time lowest round scoring record with a 3-under par 69 performance. It was the second time Nicholson reached the low-score benchmark after former teammate, Frida Fougberg, set the standard early last season.
Nicholson opened the 54-hole event at The Club at Old Hawthorn in Columbia, Mo., with an even-par 72 ballot. She recorded a pair of birdies, and two bogeys to go along with 14 pars before her record-tying second-round performance.
In the second round, Nicholson carded five birdies and two bogeys with 11 pars to tie the 3-under record. Her 36-hole 141 (-3) effort stands as the program's second best two-round score behind the 140 (-4) total she posted at the MAC Championships last year.
During the final 18-holes, Nicholson climbed three spots on the leaderboard for the second place finish. Her final round scorecard at the Johnie mirrored her first round results with 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 72.
At the tournament, Nicholson totaled 39 pars, nine birdies and six bogeys.
"The MAC is extremely talented, and each week there are so many great individual performances," Nicholson said. "It's an honor to be selected as MAC Golfer of the Week!
The Zips will be back on the course in Youngstown, Ohio, at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. The 54-hole event will be played at the Youngstown Country Club.
