Buddenberg Named MAC Specialist of the Week

CLEVELAND– Sophomore long snapper Michael Buddenberg (Massillon, Ohio) has been tabbed the Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the East Division, the league announced on Monday.
In Akron's 35-14 win at Louisiana, the Zips' two-year long snapper recorded his first stat as he recovered a Louisiana fumble following a punt in the second quarter. The recovery gave the Zips the ball back to close out the first half and take away the Cajuns' opportunity to tie the game before halftime.
Buddenberg has seen action in every game this fall, handling all long snapping duties.
Additionally, sophomore quarterback Thomas Woodson (Monroeville, Pa.) was selected as the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Woodson, who received the starting nod In Akron's 35-14 win at Louisiana, rushed for a 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The TD was his second this season. He finished the game at 13-of-29 for 238 yards and a career-best two touchdowns. His 72-yard TD pass to Jerome Lane was a career-long. He was also the Zips' leading rusher, finishing with a career-high 93 yards and a TD on eight carries.
Woodson was also named the College Sports Madness MAC Offensive Player of the Week.
After four games, Woodson is the Zips' top quarterback, going 25-of-50 for 445 yards and three touchdowns.
Akron (2-2 overall, 0-0 MAC) opens MAC play with Ohio (3-1 overall, 0-0 MAC) on Oct. 3 at InfoCision Stadium— Summa Field during its annual Homecoming contest. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
